I. The Great Commission
A. Commanded By Jesus V. 18
1. All authority- Jesus has all authority, and He has told us to do this.
2. We may convince ourselves that this is not important.
3. Others may tell us we shouldn’t do this. People, demonic spirits, etc.
B. Speak Of Jesus V. 19
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
1. Go-We are not only to wait for people to come to us. We are to go to them.
a. The modern church seems to shifted to a waiting posture instead of a going posture.
b. May God grant us hearts that see people as needing a Savior
2. Make disciples- This means that we speak to people About Jesus.
a. A disciple is a learner, a student, a follower.
b. That person needs to first be convinced that following Jesus is the right thing to do
c. That may happen in a brief conversation, or it may take months/years
3. Baptizing them-This is the outward of sign of what God has done within someone.
a. Baptism follows the inward decision of one who has decided to follow Jesus.
b. Baptism doesn’t save, but it is a statement of one who has been saved.
c. It is part of the testimony of faith.
C. Teach About Jesus V. 20
1. Teach them-some teach better than others, but all of us know more than non-Believers.
2. Helping them understand the layout of the Bible, simple thoughts on prayer, etc.
3. We do these things, knowing that Jesus is with us as we do them.
II. Considerations
A. Why Do We Disobey Jesus On This?
1. We have the fear of rejection. We don’t want to offend anyone.
2. We are too busy being good stewards, or caring for ourselves.
3. Lack of confidence and ability to say the right thing
4. We are indifferent; our hearts have grown cold.
5. Allowed busyness to take priority of our lives
6. We walk in the flesh, and not in the Spirit, and don’t have the mind of Christ.
7. We prefer to immerse ourselves in our Christian sub culture, and avoid evil
8. We consciously/unconsciously want to maintain our comfort zone.
9. We leave evangelizing and teaching up to the pastors, and church programs.
10. You prefer to share your testimony through good works. The Gospel requires words.
B. How It Can Happen
1. Realize that this is a command. Not a suggestion. Have a mind shift regarding this.
2. More importantly, draw closer to Jesus, and the command will not feel commanding, because you will have a heart shift.
3. Some are more inclined to reach out, others to teach, but we can all do some of both.
4. Spurgeon- Jesus said, “Go” to some very imperfect disciples. “Who is to go out of that first band of disciples? It is Peter, the rash and the headstrong. It is John, who sometimes wishes to call fire from heaven to destroy men. It is Philip, with whom the Savior has been so long, and yet he has not known him. It is Thomas, who must put his finger into the print of the nails, or he will not believe him. Yet the Master says to them, ‘Go ye; all power is given unto me, therefore go ye. You are as good for my purpose as anybody else would be. There is no power in you, I know, but then all power is in me, therefore go ye.’”
